General Dental Council announces new Chair

The General Dental Council has announced that Baron Harris of Haringey (Lord Toby Harris) has been appointed as its new chair. The GDC has also announced the appointment of Council Member Angie Heilmann MBE. The appointments will take effect on 1 October 2021.
The appointments will fill the places of the GDC’s outgoing Chair, Dr William Moyes, and Council Member, Catherine Brady, when they leave office at the end of September.
Announcing the appointments, the GDC commented:
Lord Toby Harris brings to the GDC 40 years of non-executive experience, including as Chair of several public sector bodies. He has a strong focus on the interests of patients and the public, and we are delighted to have a Chair with such a breadth of knowledge and skills to lead the Council, in what continue to be challenging times for patients and the professions.
Angie Heilmann MBE, who as a registered dental nurse and educator, has over 30 years’ experience in the dental sector in both clinical and academic roles. Angie Heilmann has held several non-executive positions, including President of the British Association of Dental Nurses, and Chair of the Local Dental Education Committee at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. She was awarded her MBE for Services to Dental Nursing in 2012.
