Dentistry under a Labour Government: dental contract reform and device regulation

Dentistry has already assumed a prominent position under the newly elected Labour government with Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, meeting with the BDA earlier this week to discuss dental contract reform.

Fulfilling a commitment made during the election campaign, the Health Secretary met with the BDA’s leadership yesterday to discuss the long-running issues of dental contract reform, workforce challenges and access issues.

Commenting on the meeting, BDA Chair Eddie Crouch said that he would be keen to work alongside the Government to deliver its manifesto commitment of 700,000 new appointments, while also noting that further work would be needed and that the BDA would hold the Government to account on delivering a new contract.

Meanwhile, the BDIA has been holding discussions with industry groups across the devices sector regarding the Government’s approach to the regulation of medical devices. In particular, international recognition remains central to industry’s asks of the MHRA and we are in the process of coordinating aligned messaging across the sector to present to newly appointed ministers.
